Hurricane Ike took a Hike

Houston was effected by hurricane Ike. All of our family has reported their safety. What a blessing!
In the days leading up to Ike I was telling Tim how I missed the days of huge tropical storms/low category hurricanes. Crazy eh! Well I was much younger and the great things were: missing school, cooler temperatures, flooded streets (sometimes my brothers and neighbors would purposely dam the gutters to create a flood--- all kids would swim and I distinctly remember a yellow blow up boat.), dark house, candles and oil lanterns. Ok, so our power was never out for more then 24 hours (as far as I remember). There was never a huge need to worry.
Due to our busy lives, we hadn't paid much attention to Ike's massive size. Wow it was HUGE.
Congratulations to:
  • Our sister Melissa, who has proven herself to be such a resilient mother. She, single handedly carried the safety and security of her little family and home.
  • All of our nieces and nephews who weathered the storm and had a good time! You are very brave for being without electricity for days, and days-- some are actually still in the dark.
  • All of our extended family, who were able to make due with their resources. In some ways it is sooo much better then sitting in the car for 13+ hours in traffic to Dallas.
  • All of our friends, who were not scared of Ike's wrath.
  • All the buildings who stood firm and kept soo many families safe and together.
